A day in the life of Shane Coomber, Commercial Director at Free2Move Lease and Inspiring Automotive Women Award Winner 2020

Shane has a very active role in ‘Women Empowered’, a network of women who have formed to advance the cause of gender balance, overcome friction and unconscious bias, and demonstrate that inclusivity is in everyone’s best interests.

She balances the equality objectives of the group with pragmatic, thoughtful implementation strategies and is a great role model to younger women.

We recently had the pleasure of catching up with Shane, as she gave insight into a typical working day as Commercial Director at Free2Move Lease.

What is your job role?

Commercial Director for Free2Move Lease. I’m responsible for the sales and marketing element of our business.

What does your typical working day look like?

I start the day with a form of exercise, I go for a run / walk most mornings along the river to energise myself for the day and I then get myself ready for the working day.

My working day is varied, I manage a number of teams responsible for the sales and marketing activities. I have virtual and now physical meetings with the teams to manage and drive business priorities as well as team meetings. I work on customer experience and interacting directly with customers, this includes meeting and visiting the retailers and meeting and working alongside the manufacturers.

My typical working day usually consists of some strategic planning and project management. Currently, I work from home but will be working in the office or going out on visits 1-2 days per weeks and I use my ‘travel’ time now to spend with my 3 boys. As soon as I finish work, I move into ‘Mum’ mode which involves cooking, getting the boys prepared for school and just general quality time with them including watching their football matches!

Who or what inspired you to pursue your current role?

I have been in the business for 25 years now and have always had an operational background, focus on delivering a quality service to retailers and customers.  An opportunity arose to broaden my horizons into the commercial aspects of the business and I jumped at it! It has been a massive learning curve for me, which is great when you’ve been in the business so long and I’m loving every minute of it!
