For 2025 we have bestowed two inspirational women with Special Recognition Awards for their work to better include the Female EV Customer:
Erin Baker – Editorial Director at Auto Trader and Motoring Journalist
Erin has advocated for years (since she became the first female motoring editor of the Telegraph, 15 years ago) to make the car-buying process more accessible for women. She has challenged the industry to build content and retail bridges between female consumers, OEMs and dealers, and she has striven to create bigger awareness around the different needs of female drivers. She used sex-disaggregated data as insight into the way women speak about their cars, and discovered the huge gender gap in EV, exploring women’s concerns around going electric. Erin is the car contributor to Vogue and Marie Claire, showcasing motoring content beyond the traditional enthusiast audience by making it more about lifestyle than performance figures. This amazing woman also co-founded She’s Electric, a national roadshow inviting women to experience electric cars and to ask questions in a pressure-free environment reserved for them. These events combine cars with fashion and homeware brands that also have sustainability as a priority. She has been a valued supporter of the Auto30Club for several years.
We are pleased to recognise Erin for all she does to ensure the industry more effectively includes the female EV customer.
Michelle Breffitt – Co-Founder of Women Drive Electric
We first met Michelle many years ago when she kindly volunteered to help at an Auto30Club school outreach event, and she has cheered the Club on ever since. Michelle co-founded a Facebook group called Women Drive Electric, that has now grown to almost 4500 members. It offers women the opportunity to ask any question and know they will not be criticised or embarrassed. She arranges events and meet ups, offers free advice, and the group is the go-to place now for many of the members. In addition, she has also helped set up and maintains the WiEV (Women in EV) group which is a collaboration including Charge Point Operators, Salary Sacrifice, and Sustainability advocates in the CV, Truck, Fleet and Bus arena, to provide support or find a friendly face to meet up with at otherwise male dominated events in the EV technology space. Her nominator describes her as a ”kind, rather shy, brilliant and magnificent Woman in Automotive.” We are pleased to recognise Michelle for all she does to ensure female EV customers feel they are in a safe space and are understood and valued.
