Inspiring the Next Generation of Automotive Women – Inspiring Automotive Women Day 2021

Back in November, the Automotive 30% Club broadcast our annual Inspiring Automotive Women Day virtual event live into 9 secondary schools across the country, and also facilitated a variety of both digital and physical reach out visits into 17 primary and secondary schools, where our volunteers spoke to over 2000 students.

The virtual event was held on the 16th of November and saw over 40 Inspiring Automotive Women, from within the Automotive 30% Club member companies, participate in a series of live activities, each focusing on providing over 300 female students with a greater understanding of the career opportunities for diverse people in the automotive industry. An amazing 95% of students said the event had provided them with a greater understanding of the career opportunities in the automotive sector.

To start the event, students were welcomed by the Automotive 30% Club and CEO of Marshall Motor Holdings Daksh Gupta, before watching an engaging video that featured a range of inspiring females from Club member companies Motorpoint, Toyota GB, Bentley Motors, Close Brothers Motor Finance, Solus Accident Repair, EMaC and Marshall Motor Group in a variety of positions within the automotive sector. This was followed by a live interactive Career Speed Networking activity and then students participated in a variety of activities which each focused on different specialisms within automotive retailing, led by an Inspiring Automotive Woman team leader. The tasks gave insight into technical, marketing, sales, planning, and customer service roles, with students giving a final presentation about what they had learned to a judge from one of our member organisations.

Students then had the opportunity to ask questions to our Inspiring Automotive Women panel of early-career women from a variety of roles, who spoke about their career so far, and provided advice to young people for joining and progressing in the sector.

In addition to the event, the Inspiring Automotive Women Day school visits took place throughout November and early December, and our “real model’ female volunteers spoke to students about their education and career pathways, their current job, and why they would recommend a career in the automotive industry, with the aim of inspiring students to consider careers within the automotive sector.

Inspiring Automotive Women Day 2021 was an extremely positive experience for the students who participated. A huge thank you to our network of Inspiring Automotive Women, and to Marshall Motor Group, our sponsor of IAW Day 2021.
